Geocache Description:

17 November 2022, 09:00 - 10:30

"B is for Bison"

The RGV Geocachers meet every Thursday morning to share Geocaching stories, tips and tricks of the game as well as provide help with solving mystery/puzzle caches. Buying breakfast is always optional, but the fun and fellowship is a given.

We're meeting at the Country Omelette, 3420 N 10th St, McAllen, TX 78501 at 9:00 am **NOTE** the newest time change. Now that we're no longer avoiding a noisy exercise class nextdoor to the restaurant, we're returning to our original start time of 9:00 am. Hope everyone can join us.

Last week I started an alpha series of titles for our meet and greet that highlight a term used in Geocaching. Today's second event is: "B is for Bison."

Also known as a "Bison tube".  A small, metal, water-tight cylindrical container that can be used as a Geocache container.  Its name comes from the original manufacturer, but there are now several other brands on the market.

Most bison tubes come with a wire ring at the top which can be used to secure the bison tube to a host or it can be removed. Bisons come in varying sizes from "Nano" (extremely tiny) to palm size and larger. They also come in various solid colors as well as painted in camoflauge.

Bison Tubes

Popular hides for bisons are in fench posts, attached to sign posts or wire fences, bushes, trees or inserted inside another container.

The log book (paper) in a Bison tube should be rolled tightly and inserted into the CAP first when the threads are on the outside of the cap. This will protect the log and make it easier to reattach the cap to the container.
