Geocache Description:

For the great majority of Nova Scotia’s documented history, transportation of people and goods was done by sea.  Looking at our Province’s geography, it is easily understood why; except for the narrow land-bridge at the Tantramar Marsh, Nova Scotia is essentially two islands.  The water was the highway, long before established roads were adequate to carry cargo.  The Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia is extremely treacherous.  Shoals, rocks, reefs, and intense wind and weather conditions caused the tragic demise of many people and the sinking of countless ships throughout the province’s history.  Nearby Canso has a documented history of 166 shipwrecks.  When this geo-art was first created, there was a  searchable database through the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic website to answer a question about a specific ship.  However, the page no longer is active.  So, we'll make it easy for you to hoist anchor, shove off, and sail to the caches.

The cache can be located at:  N 45 12.928 W 061 23.XXX
