Welcome to Wilderness Park! 1,472 acres of Wetland, Tallgrass Prairie, Woodland Habitat's and conservation area with more than 30 miles of multi-use trails throughout. Equestrian users always have the right of way(This specific cache can only be accessed by the hiker/biker only trail, sorry horses). Cyclist yield to all others. Pedestrians stay aware. Leave no trace but practie some CITO if you can! This whole area is a floodplain so try not to use muddy trails to prevent erosion. This magnificent park has eight main trailheads. This cache is located closest to the seventh trail head, Fauna of Wilderness Park TH7.
There are so many species of birds, mammals, insects, reptiles, and amphibians that make their home in Wilderness Park. The largest mammal you'll see is white tailed deer. While placing this cache we saw a total of 12 of them. Other mammals not so often seen as much as their scat are bobcats, foxes, raccoons, and most rarely mink! There are plenty of squirrels. Bull snakes and garter snakes can be seen sunning themselves on the trails from time to time. It's hard not to hear the frogs singing around dawn and dusk in the spring and summer. If you are a bug person or a straight up entemologist still bodies of water and nurse logs are the places to look. If you've got an eagle eye a feild mouse sometimes zips across the path, I've seen it's unfortunate friend in an owl pellet as well. Feel free to include what wildlife you encountered in your log!
