Piazza Grande è la piazza principale di Oderzo e sin dal medioevo è il centro della vita sociale, economica e religiosa della città. Intitolata a Vittorio Emanuele II alla fine del XIX secolo, riprese il nome originale alla fine degli anni novanta.

Di forma rettangolare, si apre in direzione nord est verso via Cesare Battisti ed il corso del fiume Monticano: curioso notare che il corso d'acqua, pur essendo adiacente alla piazza, segnava fino agli anni trenta il confine tra il territorio la città e quello della frazione di Camino.

Sul lato est vi si affaccia inoltre Palazzo Saccomani, interessante soprattutto per gli affreschi della facciata, e il Torresòn. Nell'angolo a sud est trovano posto le arcate dell'ex Loggia Comunale, oggi chiusa da vetrate con all'interno sulle pareti sono affestati gli stemmi nobiliari delle famiglie nobili del territorio. Il lato a sud corrisponde a quelle che in epoca medievale erano le mura della città; al centro di esse si apriva la Porta Trevisana, detta così perché da lì si usciva per recarsi a Treviso; si tratta dell'attuale Torresin, il simbolo della città. A sud ovest sorge il Duomo di San Giovanni Battista, accanto al quale si apre piazza Carducci, contigua a Piazza Grande.

Lungo il lasto ovest, a destra di piazza Carducci, sorgono due palazzi nobiliari di epoca seicentesca, mentre a sinistra del lato nord una breve stradina collega Piazza Grande all'attigua Piazza Castello. Lungo questo lato sorge il Palazzo dei Battuti.

La cache

Una volta in piazza cercate l'analemma, ovvero la meridiana a tempo medio che segna le ore 12 (le 13 in ora legale) quando l'ombra della cuspide più alta del Duomo coincide con il tratto di curva corrispondente al mese in corso. Vicino troverete delle coordinate e convertitele nel solito formato N XX XX.XXX E XX XX.XXX (se non sapete come fare usate questo sito https://www.geocachingtoolbox.com/index.php?lang=en&page=coordinateNotation). Come potete vedere le coordinate risultano fuori dalla piazza dall'altra parte del Monticano, ma non vi preoccupate, basta aggirarvi per la piazza a caccia dei seguenti indizi:

• Iniziamo ad andare nella loggia pretoria, qui sono presenti ancora 2 colonne dedicate a dei pretori con degli anni, fate la differenza tra i due ed avrete il valore di A
• Procediamo attraverso la piazza, qui vedrete invece delle colonne più vecchie, quante sono? Valore B
• Andiamo verso nord e il palazzo dei battuti (chiamato Ca' Balbi). Il secolo d'origine è il valore C
• Ed ora andiamo ad ammirare il Monticano insieme ad alcune divinità. Solo 2 di esse ci dicono facilmente il loro nome, la somma del numero di lettere è il valore D

Ora, ammirando il fiume possiamo riprendere le coordinate trovate in piazza e modificarle per poter lasciar traccia del nostro passaggio. Aggiungiamo alla coordinata nord (B*C)-6 e togliamo dalla coordinata est (A/4)*D+4 millesimi di grado e troverete il tesoro.

La cache è di dimensioni small e all'interno troverete logbook, timbro e penna che vi chiedo di lasciare dove sono, più qualche oggetto da scambiare. Buona caccia!

Piazza Grande is the main square of Oderzo and since the Middle Ages it has been the center of the social, economic and religious life of the city. Named after Vittorio Emanuele II at the end of the nineteenth century, it took back its original name at the end of the nineties.

Rectangular in shape, it opens in a north-easterly direction towards via Cesare Battisti and the course of the Monticano river: it is curious to note that the watercourse, although adjacent to the square, marked the border between the territory, the city and the of the hamlet of Camino.

On the east side there is also Palazzo Saccomani, interesting above all for the frescoes on the facade, and the Torresòn. In the south-east corner there are the arches of the former Municipal Loggia, now closed by windows with the noble coats of arms of the noble families of the area affested on the inside. The south side corresponds to what were the city walls in medieval times; in the center of them opened the Porta Trevisana, so called because from there you left to go to Treviso; it is the current Torresin, the symbol of the city. To the south west stands the Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista, next to which Piazza Carducci opens up, adjacent to Piazza Grande.

Along the west side, to the right of Piazza Carducci, there are two noble palaces of the seventeenth century, while to the left of the north side a short road connects Piazza Grande to the adjacent Piazza Castello. Along this side stands the Palazzo dei Battuti.

The cache

Once in the square look for the analemma, that is the medium-time sundial that marks 12 o'clock (13 o'clock in summer time) when the shadow of the highest peak of the Duomo coincides with the stretch of curve corresponding to the current month. Nearby you will find some coordinates and convert them into the usual format N XX XX.XXX E XX XX.XXX (if you don't know how to do it, use this site https://www.geocachingtoolbox.com/index.php?lang=en&page=coordinateNotation). As you can see the coordinates are out of the square on the other side of the Monticano, but don't worry, just wander around the square looking for the following clues:

• We start to go to the praetorian lodge, here there are still 2 columns dedicated to praetors with years, make the difference between the two and you will have the value of A
• We proceed through the square, here you will see instead of the older columns, how many are there? Value B
• We go north and the Palazzo dei Battuti (called Ca 'Balbi). The century of origin is the C value
• And now let's go and admire the Monticano together with some divinities. Only 2 of them easily tell us their name, the sum of the number of letters is the D value

Now, admiring the river, we can resume the coordinates found in the square and modify them to be able to leave traces of our passage. We add to the north coordinate (B * C) - 6 and remove from the east coordinate (A / 4) * D + 4 thousandths of a degree and you will find the treasure.
