This is the first in a series of caches around the Holmpton area. This is a small, quiet community, which has been occupied at least since Roman times. The major feature of the village is the coastal erosion which is the fastest in Europe. For centuries the sea has been eating away at the cliffs at a rate of between 1 and 2 metres a year, but this seems to be getting worse recently as a result of climate change.
In living memory the footpath here led to several fields and a farm (Cliff Farm), but it is now a fraction of it's former self.
If you are interested, there are lots of historical pictures of Cliff Farm (and other parts of the village) at www.holmpton.org.uk
