There is BC, DC and AC and it's not a song - that’s Before Covid, During Covid and After Covid and it's my story. DC (During Covid) meant films, books, embracing the Zen and Kondo of decluttering, listening to ALL Paul Kelly’s songs, gardening, exploring the limits of 5kms, zoning out and ZOOMing in. A big plus was that COVID did mark the beginning of unanticipated journeys into the minds of ‘solvers and code crackers’ aka geobuddies.
I love music but this is not a song - it's MY STORY (and the puzzle) ....my ramblings and memories of DC. Take crustyvarmint with the generous big heart who is always in for an adventure with his trusty tinny - hilarity is guaranteed. Crusty always has a plan - and in remote locations it’s a beautiful feeling when we finally locate GZ. There are other kind buddies like Surefoot24 and Let Them Eat Cache always inclusive of someone new and happy to go that extra mile by running sanity saver ZOOM events. Words and music are are my forte but I confess math often takes a nudge from ScifiRulz or Riddell. Failing that it’s a bonus to know your friends will be online at the next solvers session. One plus of Covid was time to create puzzles and lucky me had a few beta testers. The fearless enthusiastic cybergranV was free when summer rain and floods made caching impossible. Times are changing.
Now, apart from ‘puzzling’, some finds are memorable too. Plenty are on Mt Buffalo and some days turned into micro adventures. When spontaneity is the driver, and the phone battery dies, the mist rolls in and it’s the rising moon that saves you, I can verify it’s the sweetest thing to get back on track by the light of that moon. You’d think it a crying shame after all that to log a DNF but it’s the journey that counts when it’s a magic night. (who else has that looks so fine, feel so low feeling after a string of DNF’s). Like a lot of things, being in the right place at the right time has its pluses and when I have nothing on my mind it’s back to the solvers – yep, I discovered a new world order! Led by Cathlud, those collective brain boxes seem to know all the ciphers and tricks under the sun. I hate to miss a session and I’d play the game night after night just to have the ‘lights go on’. Nothing like that green tick hey!
