Geocache Description:

In the 70/80's the car treasure hunt was a popular way to spend a day at the weekend. As a child it was a great day out. Into the car to get to the 'start' point to pick up the envelope that contained the all important clues. Dad driving, mum reading the directions and clues and my sister and I hopping in and out of the car finding answers. Normally it all ended up at the pub where the winner was announced. It was a great way to keep the kids entertained for an hour or two and a social at the end for the adults/parents.

Anyway, it's not very practical these days with so many cars on the roads and with us all trying to be more green/eco friendly. So this is a walking treasure hunt, a circular walk around Sulby getting numbers for the final.

Park at the given car-park waypoint in Sulby Claddagh to begin your walk. The car park is next to a salmon jump. If it’s the right time of the year (Autumn) and you are very lucky you might see one. I have to admit I never have, but I know people who have or so they say...

Walk westwards on the little path that will bring you out at the Green Iron Bridge. The waypoint has been given for A to get you started. The rest you will have to find yourself on the circular walk.

How many triskelions can you find on the Iron bridge? = A

Folllow the directions to get the rest of the answers:

Walk over the bridge (lovely view of the river) and bear left

How many curved border stones surround the millstone? = BC

Turn right at this junction towards the main road.

How many balls are there on the wall surrounding Pine View? = D

Go straight ahead at the cross roads. This is a busy main road, please be careful when crossing.

What year was the Sulby Community Hall built? = EFGH

Keep walking on the road after the Community Hall for a short distance then take a right to walk the old railway line public footpath. There are butterflies here in summer mainly Meadow Brown or Speckled Wood and if you look towards the mountains you may see some buzzards. They are often seen flying around this area.

About a third of the way along you will come to a gated crossing for a farm lane.

There is a bison tube hidden on a gate post which will contain the number for I

Keep going on the old railway line and turn right at the end.

How many blue bollards are there outside Kella Close = J

Turn right at junction and walk for a very short distance on the main road. Cross over the road (again taking care as this is a main road) to take the marked path. Keep going straight ahead on this path.

What is the highest number on the river depth gauge? = K

Keep walking on the well defined path (don't go over a style) which will bring you out at the Sulby Claddagh again but on the opposite side from where you parked.

Finally, what number tree is dedicated to Frank Lloyd Williams = L

Now go to:

to find the Cache and sign the log 😀

Many thanks to Department of Infrastructure, Highways and PROW for allowing the physical stage for I
