Background

Welcome to my series of odd and miscellaneous challenges.

Here we are again at the beginning of another year with yet again another new challenge which seems to have a calendar theme. We certainly weren't planning for this to become a "thing" when we published GC9JYR0 A Traditional Double Calendar Challenge Olio #12 last year but this just happened to coincide again this year. And so once again, we hope everyone is ready for...

A new year - a new challenge!

This is an edited cut and paste quote from last year's challenge cache description that also seems very appropriate to repeat here again:

January (...) seems like the perfect (month) to introduce this challenge. If you already qualify for it, what better way to celebrate the start of the new year than by signing the log for a challenge that is based on the calendar? And if you don't qualify, then this is a perfect opportunity to make a new year's resolution to complete this challenge and we'll look forward to you logging this cache before the next January 1st.

As for this challenge, it really is a combination of 2 separate challenges that we've come across before. Why combine the 2 challenges? Well, why not? This wouldn't be an Olio challenge without some sort of twist or uniqueness built in, right? Secondly, you'll see there already is some overlap between the two challenges anyways. If we published them as separate challenges, you most likely would be reusing some of the same caches for each challenge anyways so why not just combine them? Besides, it's nice to have a little extra added variety built into the challenge. This challenge will give cachers the opportunity to "spice up" their caching experiences every month, if they haven't completed the challenge already.

The Challenge

To qualify for this challenge, you must have found all 7 cache sizes (micro, small, regular, large, other, not chosen, and virtual) and 7 cache types in every month of the year. Because virtual is both a cache size and cache type, it can only be used as one of the 7 cache sizes for this challenge, and not one of the 7 cache types.

The Requirements

Some more things about the challenge to be aware of:

  • All cache types except for virtual caches, benchmarks, and adventure lab caches can be used for this challenge. Because of their very limited quantities, the Project APE Caches, Groundspeak HQ, GPS Adventures Exhibits, Groundspeak Block Parties, and Locationless Cache types are not considered viable for this challenge and have been excluded from this challenge as well.
  • There are no restrictions to the number of cache or cache types found in each month, however the same 7 cache types must be found in every month in order to complete this challenge.
  • Any past finds count.
  • The same cache can be used for both the size and type criteria. For example, a large Wherigo cache found in December can be used for both the large size and Wherigo cache type for the month of December.
  • This is not a streak challenge in any way. The finds do not have to be sequential in any way. In other words, there is no requirement for this challenge to be completed in 12 consecutive months. This challenge can be completed over any number of years.
  • There are no time restrictions or any required order for these caches to be found in. The year (and day of the month) which the cache is found on is irrelevant. The various cache sizes and types do not all have to be found in the same year or on the same date. All that matters is the month they are found in.

The fine print

CO reserves the right to make any changes to this challenge if any issues or ambiguities are discovered. CO will be fair but has the final say on any events, caches, finds, or logs that are questionable. CO reserves the right to delete any logs if problems are found.

Finding This Cache

Do NOT access this cache from Highway 2. Please use the nearby service road instead.

Please remember to be respectful of the cache location. Be aware of how and where the cache is "attached" so that it can be put back in exactly the same way and in the same place for the next person(s) to enjoy. Only the "inner" portion of the cache needs to be removed to log the cache. The container may not be accessible during the winter months.

Logging This Cache

As with any challenge caches, you are welcome to physically sign the log for this cache and log it as "Write Note" if you haven't met the challenge's requirements yet. Please bring your own pen(cil)/writing instrument to sign the log.

Please use this Project-GC challenge checker below to verify if you have qualified for this challenge.

PGC Checker

You can only log a "Found It" entry online after you've completed the challenge and signed the log. All non-qualifying "Found It" logs will be deleted without notice.

Similar Challenge Caches?

Whether you qualify for this challenge or not, you may also qualify for similar challenges as well.

If you know of any other caches similar to this challenge or if you want to replicate this challenge in your area, please let me know and we will add those caches here so that other cachers can be aware.
