Geocache Description:

The Area

Munibung Hill is a prominent landmark of the Lake Macquarie area, stretching 160 metres above sea level. Its formal European settlement began in 1828 when William Brooks opened a coal mine on the west side of the hill. Munibung is bounded by the suburbs of Speers Point, Boolaroo, Warner’s Bay, Argenton, Glendale and Macquarie Hills. Two quarries are located on the hill. One was opened in the early 20th century, and provided much of the gravel used in the construction of Williamtown airbase. The other was a large council quarry that ceased operation in 2014.

Recently Lake Macquarie City Council have been forming a Munibung Hill management plan, to allow safer access to the Hill and the construction of useful infrastructure. This plan has been finalised, and you can view it here

The Cache

This geocache is an extension of the Harry of the Leash series, which is located on the other side of the Munibung summit. The caches are in an area great for dogs, hence the original series is named after C_Swiss’ dog Harry. We take him for a walk and let him off the leash here and he will run down the hill.

The cache is a small canister containing log only. You will need a pencil. Best parking for this cache is Lucilla Ridge, however you can park at Macquarie Road if doing the other series aswell.

Please ensure cache is properly replaced after finding.

If there is an issue with the cache, place it in a safe spot and promptly contact A_Sheep or C_Swiss via geocaching messages with the location.

Enjoy
