Geocache Description:

22 April 2023, 10:00 - 11:00

This event was originally scheduled for April 11, 2020. Well, we know that happened. So after three years, we will pick up trash on the two sections of the Ojai Valley Trail that the Ojai Valley Cachers adopted in 2016. I chose the date to accommodate Tax Season and the time to accommodate those who must travel a distance.

Park and Meet in the small neighborhood park at the posted coordinates. We'll meet and split into teams to clean up the two sections we adopted. They run from Baldwin Road to Barbara Street, approximately 1.2 miles.  It is a short walk or drive to get to our sections of the trail. This will be the eighth CITO event to clean these sections of the trail.

The work plan includes picking up trash, stomping down tall weeds, and documenting maintenance issues by taking pictures and coordinates. Latex gloves, 13-gallon trash bags, Band-Aids to prevent "trigger finger blisters," and a limited number of trash pickers will be provided.
All Volunteers must sign a County supplied Release of Liability Form.
A site-specific Safety Briefing will take place on-site, but here is a link to general safety information.

Please put this event on your Watch List to be informed of any updates.

EVENT HISTORY:
It has been over three years since the Ojai Valley Cachers officially adopted two sections of the Ojai Valley Trail as part of the Ventura County Parks Department "Adopt-A-Trail" Program. We were the pioneers that resurrected this program. In the ensuing months, other companies or individuals have adopted six additional sections.  We led the way.

  • CITO Event #1: On November 5, 2016: Thirty geocachers and several muggle friends and family came together and cleaned FIVE sections of the trail, from the "Y" intersection to Barbara Street.
  • CITO Event #2:  On April 23, 2017, approximately fifty-five geocachers and muggles cleaned SEVEN sections of trail, approximately 6.5 miles from the "Y" intersection to Santa Ana Blvd in Oak View, which was approximately 50% of the length of the County portion of the trail. Some of the large turnout can be attributed to this being gsmX2's 65th birthday, 20,000th find, and 1,500th hide.
  • CITO Event #3: On November 23, 2017, twenty-one geocachers cleaned up three sections of the trail. Every geocacher gathered enough trash to fill up at least half of a 13-gallon trash bag.
  • CITO Event #4: On April 28, 2018, about 30 geocachers and others helped clean our two sections plus one other section.
  • CITO Event #5: On September 16, 2018, about 30 geocachers and others helped clean our two sections of trail plus the section that was adopted by the gsmX2 family.
  • CITO Event #6: This event was scheduled on May 19, 2019.  A steady rain turned the CITO into a Meet and Greet as a hearty group of 13 sat at Starbucks and talked geocaching.  After the rain, a few locals met and picked up several trash bags.
  • CITO Event #7: On October 12, 2019, fifteen geocachers logged that they attended this event. Most then headed to Papa Lennon's for lunch, even though it was not an official event. Badfeet received kudos for stepping in at the last minute when gsmX2 had a work conflict that prevented him from attending the event he planned.
  • Cito Event #7: Was scheduled for April 11, 2020. On March 13, 2020, Geocaching HQ Admin posted an announcement regarding COVID-19 on all future Events and CITOs. I immediately disabled the CITO and archived it three days later.

For your information, to fulfill our obligation to clean up our sections of the trail at least four times a year, a small contingent of the OVC conducts a cleanup between these major efforts.
