The ecological belt comes to what seems to be an abrupt end here in the backwaters of Nangang, but continue a bit further along the footpath through the vegetation to find an abandoned structure with some welcoming rungs. If this seems like a dead-end in the boondocks: it is, at least for now.
Then again, nothing is ever what it seems and in a location that would indeed be the boondocks in a more conventional city, in Guangzhou it's just a window onto another densely developed and vibrant part of the city at a point where it starts to merge seamlessly into the adjacent metropolis of Dongguan.
