This cache is a lock -n- lock container located in the Wescott Nature Preserve. There is parking located at N 40° 25.328, W 75° 00.272 on Raven Rock-Rosemont Road. This a beautiful part of NJ. Enjoy the ride here. If you’re coming from the East, be sure to check out the covered bridge just west of Sergeantsville.

Wescott Nature Preserve was donated to Hunterdon County by the Wescotts in 1966. This donation created the 1st county park and predates the County Parks Dept. (estab. in 1973). The 80 acre park is bisected by the Lockatong Creek. The Lenni Lenape Indians had settlements in this area and took pride in the dense stones, called Argillite, which can be found in the streambed. They would make tools and weapons with them. There is a small building on the property constructed in 1861 to serve as the John Reading School. Historically a school was located on this site since 1796. Today, the building serves as a private residence. We decided that this very pleasant nature preserve needed a cache. The trails are well maintained, although they can be muddy at times, and the section of the trail along the Lockatong Creek is very scenic. You can decide which trail to take (you may want to continue on in whatever direction you choose and complete a loop). As you near the creek (from either direction), there is a branch of the trail that descends to the creek bed. Coords for this trail are: N 40 25.363 W 075 00.457. We strongly recommend that you approach the cache from this direction to prevent serious bodily injury! Hunting is permitted in this area (in season), so wear blaze orange if you visit then. Also, this is Hunterdon, and so there will be ticks – prepare. Please re-hide the cache as you found it.
