"K" - Kilometer... How to get Miles? – Meet & Greet

This season each event is part of an alpha series of titles highlighting a term used in Geocaching. Today’s event is brought to you by the letter “K”. Geocaching glossary doesn’t include this letter, so 8Nuts MotherGoose and I chose Kilometer.
While the main difference between the metric system and the imperial system is the type of units used, there are a few other key differences.
- The metric system is based around the unit of measurement called the meter.
- The meter was created in 18th Century France by the chemist, Lavoisier
- Metric units easily convert by multiplying or dividing by powers of 10.
- The Imperial system was created in 19th Century England
- There is no straightforward way to convert imperial units.
If you’re measuring length or distance, these are common unit conversions:

What to do, what to do…my GPS, my Navigator, my Geocaching App – or whatever is displaying distance in Kilometer instead of Miles (or visa-versa).
Every navigational device is slightly different, but they all have a settings option that includes choosing Imperial or Metric distance readings.
It’s all about settings…let’s look at your Geocaching Profile Preferences
Log into Geocaching.com
Click the down arrow to the right of your profile name. 
Pop up menu appears…
Click on “Settings”
The link below takes you to your profile settings.

In Settings, Click on “Preferences” 
In preferences, there are several items you might want/need to adjust, but for now, click on the radio button to the left of “Imperial” for miles, or “Metric” for kilometers – your preference.
Click on “Save Changes”
