Just south of the cache is a brick factory set up in 1998, a paper mill processing shop, a logistics warehouse, and not very much else. The industry cluster here is a low-tech throwback along a Nangang River blueway lined with high-tech industry. Five years ago there was a much larger cluster of factories in this area but most have now been demolished along with the urban village that housed many of the workers and their families. The general air of impermanence isn't helped by the constant rumbling of cement trucks from the cement factory 1km to the south; a reminder of construction activities often following on the heels of demolition. It's hard to envisage this cluster of remaining factories lasting beyond a few years as the whole area is rebuilt in an as-yet-unknown form.
The attractively landscaped and newly built Nangang River blueway, with much of it still under construction, feels fresh and new and provides a strong contrast with the air of impending doom surrounding the still-standing building stock in the area.
