This geocache will take you to the Historic Barrel Arch Bridge at the Laurel Hill Central Green Park. Built in 1946 by the prisoners at the Lorton Reformatory, it is the only bridge of its kind in Virginia. The bridge is made using wedge shaped bricks and there is an interesting echo for those who pass underneath. If you’re interested- this bridge is also a stop on the Occoquan River Wanderings Adventure Lab.
You’ll be looking for a micro-cache that only has room for a log. Please note- this cache is not attached the historic bridge but it is nearby and you do not need to leave the Cross County Trail to find the cache. Perhaps you’d like to sit for a spell and take in the scenery. Please place the cache back exactly as you find it. The park opens at dawn and closes at dusk-no night caching allowed.
There’s parking at the Laurel Hill Central Green Park and at the Barrett House, both have unpaved trails that lead to the paved Cross County Trail where the cash’s is located.
Congrats to Luv4VA for FTF!!!
