A quick find in one of the parks I frequent in New Carrollton.
--
In doing some cursory research on the town I learned that New Carrollton was built on a horse racing estate owned by Edward L. Mahoney. When he passed in 1957, a developer by the name of Alber W. Turner purchased the land with the intention of creating a planned suburb, a charter for which he had aqcuired by the Maryland General Assembly in 1953 (four years earlier).
Nowadays, New Carrollton has a population of over 13,000 residents, all which fit into 1.57 sq miles of space and share these beutiful parks. Take some time to explore while you are in the area!
