Geocache Description:

"The Maintenance Run" caches get added as the previous caches we own along the Summit Road get checked. In the past, no matter what time of the year, it always seems to have a cold wind blowing when placing new caches up here... while also having beautiful blue skies and amazing views.

We had planned on going the previous day but decided that with driving rain and low cloud it was a bad idea. We were rewarded for waiting a day with an exception to the typical cold wind, so caching was able to be done in shorts and a t-shirt, instead of the usual ski jacket.  MacPacDad's new EV had to be kitted out with GPS, duct tape, cable ties, ziplock baggies, a pile of log books, a series of containers and a bag of 'trade', that any good geomobile should have, enabling more caches to be placed while checking up on the ones that had issues.

The MacPacParents traveled from Christchurch to Akaroa, so stopping places on the Maintenance Run are mainly accessible in that direction of travel.

Nice pull-in area with a view down to Onewa Peninsula - a volcanic plug within Akaroa Harbour.

Onewa is well worth a visit with an easy walk to the summit with great views and insteresting volcanic rock formations visible at low tide. It was historically a Ngai Tahu pa (Maori fortified village). While no evidence is left of the pa now, you can imagine it was chosen as a good defence spot.

Please rehide the cache the same way.
