Sandscale Haws, sometimes known as Roanhead, has a number of different habitats and supports all kinds of life. The dunes are home to various kinds of butterflies and orchids, and amphibians such as the Great Crested Newt and Natterjack Toad are found here. Over 300 kinds of fungi have been recorded across the nature reserve, and Sandscale Haws is one of the most important sites for fungi in the British Isles. All kinds of coastal treasures can be found washed up on the strandline (high water mark).
Caution: Please take the time to explore the reserve, but be aware of tides and quicksand - the intertidal zone is best avoided. If you have a dog, please keep your pet under close control and never let your dog out of your sight (see Dog walking, Sandscale Haws | Lake District | National Trust for more information).
To find the geocache, look underneath the back of the Red Hut.
