Morning Mountain Recreation Area is located in the rural community of Blewett, approximately 4km west of the City of Nelson, via Blewett Road. The facility is accessed via Blewett Ski Hill Road which is a gravel road that switchbacks for 1.2 kms to the parking area.
Morning Mountain offers a variety of trails for hiking, biking, and snowshoeing. These trails take you through dark cedar forests and large meadows, as well the area offers many scenic views......it just depends on how energetic you are.
There are a choice of trails to accend but we choose the "Bottoms Up" trail since it has a lot of switchbacks which makes for a gradual incline on the accent. We hiked to the "mid Kiosk" before returning to the parking lot via the "Placenta Decent" trail with a stop at the "Hiker's Viewpoint".
Note: Do not hike the "Black Diamond" trails.
The nice thing about a network of trails is that you can pick your level. The bad thing is that you can get lost. Note that a couple of the trails in the area do not lead back to the main parking lot and instead come out on Granite Road.
We hid this series of caches in the winter. We stayed on the main trails which were well packed so we did not need our snowshoes. Grippers might be very helpful if the trails are icy.
This cache is hidden near the Mid Kiosk where we started our decent. The cache is located just a short distance on a side trail.
