Swatara Park Stash Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

HAKenders: I have reluctantly decided to lay this cache to rest, not because of anything other than my lack of time to fully scout out another suitable location. This area has some fine terrain and wonderful scenic beauty, along with its close proximity to the fossil pits makes it a excellent section of the park for Geocaching. Many outdoor activities can be enjoyed from this area including hunting, hiking, biking, birdwatching, canoeing..........just to name a few.

I am truly sorry for the loss of the Sponge Bob Squarepants Travel Bug, but alas, somethings are out of our control.

Thank You, one and all who have visited my cache.

Happy Caching,
HAKenders............Butch

Geocache Description:

The cache is placed in the east end of one of Pennsylvania's newest and fastest growing State Parks. It is a clear plastic pretzel jar with a blue screw on lid. Inside is the usual goodies, for young and old. As in all State Parks that allow hunting, and State Game Lands PLEASE excersise caution during those times of the year when hunting is allowed. Please do your best to rehide the cache as good if not better than you found it. Thanx

Once, where the Susquehannock American Indian Tribe called "where we feed on eels", Swatara State Park Visitors have the opportunity to enjoy many outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, canoeing, fossil collecting, horseback riding, along with hunting and fishing.
There are other links to Swatara Parks past, including remnants of the Union Canal System that linked the Schuylkill and Susquehanna Rivers, from Reading through Lebanon to Middletown. A feeder branch connected Pine Grove to the main canal in Lebanon. Also the Lebanon and Tremont spur of the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad, which connected the mining towns of Schuylkill County with distribution points to the south. The State of Pennsylvania acquired the portion of the railroad right of way within the park as well as the 2-mile segment connecting to Lickdale. This is now part of Pennsylvania's Rails-to-Trails program.
The Appalachian Trail crosses the Swatara Creek within the park over the Historic Waterville Bridge, a parabolic structure known as a lenticular truss, one of only 3 in Pennsylvania.
As you can see, this area has great potential for residents as well as non-residents of Pennsylvania, all you have to do is come and enjoy.
