Geocache Description:

This cache is placed on the Black Berry Tunnel walking / cycling route. The trail offers beautiful scenic spots as it takes you through a lush forest.

The trail is about 3.5km, but can be combined with various other trails if you were in the mood for some more walking. Remember to bring enough water, snacks, sturdy walking shoes, sunscreen and a hat. Parking is available just off Herbert Street (see added waypoint).

You will be able to enjoy the natural flora (vegetation) and might just be fortunate enough to spot some of the local fauna (wildlife). Be on the lookout for the dangerous creatures that might be around.

Quick Facts - Wombat:

  • Wombats are marsupials. They have pouches where their newborn young develop.
  • The baby wombat is also known as a joey.
  • There are three different species of wombat: The common wombat (bare-nosed wombat), the Southern hairy-nosed wombat and the Northern hairy-nosed wombat.
  • Wombats are mostly nocturnal and mostly spend their days in their underground homes. Sometimes they come out to warm up.
  • They can run at speeds of up to 40km per hour.
  • Wombat poo is cube-shaped.
  • Wombat pouches face backwards to protect wombat joeys in the pouch from being sprayed with dirt, while their mother digs in the ground.
  • The Northern hairy-nosed wombat is critically endangered. Luckily, conservationists are working hard to help with the survival of these special animals.
