Henleaze Library opened on 22 April 1970. It cost £29,500 to build, which took just under a year and the library was opened by the Lord Mayor, Ald Bert Williams at 11am. The library housed 17,000 books and there were six staff employed. The hours of opening were 9am to 8pm, Monday to Friday and 9.30am to 6pm on Saturdays.

These two pictures were taken when the library first opened. It all looks very different now, a lift going to the mezzanine area was installed and the library was extended to include a conservatory and a one storey front extension. In November 2022 a brand new children's area was completed, which has proved to be very popular with local families. Nowadays, the library is one of the busiest in Bristol, and it is still open Monday to Saturday, although the opening hours are somewhat shorter than the original 1970 hours!
GZ is overlooked by anyone sat in the conservatory, so please be discrete and re-hide carefully. Parking behind the library should only be used if you intend to actually use the library, otherwise there is free parking locally roadside and there are 2 very local bus stops. Some of the library staff will know about the cache, but others may not, so if you get desperate you can always see if anyone can point you in the right direction! Due to nearby residential housing, please do not cache after dark.
