Geocache Description:

Mitchell and Phoebe Clay are recognized as the first white settlers in what is now Mercer County, WV.  In 1775 they settled down on Clover Bottom, on the Bluestore river. In 1783 two of their children were killed in a Shawnee indian raid and another son was captured.

You can read more about them on the memorial here.  There is a great deal of information about the family in the book "Old Town Princeton Mercer County, WV" by William Sanders, 2006.

The cache has room for some small trinkets.  Please return it as you found it to allow future geocachers the same fun you had. BYOP

Congratulations to Chaos24739 on her quick FTF in the cold rain!
