(ITA) Forte Marghera è il più antico e il più maestoso dei forti del Campo Trincerato di Mestre. La sua costruzione fu iniziata dagli austriaci nel 1805 e portata a termine dai francesi tra il 1809 e il 1814. Sorge su un’area di circa 30 ettari tra laguna e terraferma e rappresenta il primo esempio di fortificazione costruita per la difesa di Venezia e del suo arsenale dagli attacchi via terra. Oggi è un parco pubblico e sede di eventi e produzioni culturali.
(ENG) Forte Marghera is the oldest and most majestic of the forts in the Campo Trincerato of Mestre. Its construction was begun by the Austrians in 1805 and completed by the French between 1809 and 1814. It stands on an area of about 30 hectares between the lagoon and the mainland and represents the first example of fortification built for the defense of Venice and the its arsenal from land attacks. Today it is a public park and venue for cultural events and productions.
