National Hug Your Dog Day

My hands down favourite event (that I hosted) last year was my National Pet Day at the Surrey Dog Park. This time it's: National Hug Your Dog Day. And we'll call it: Hug your Geodog Day!

Hugging your dog releases a hormone in both pup and person called “oxytocin,” informally referred to as “the cuddle hormone.” Not only does a good tight squeeze strengthen your bond, it shows your pet that you care. Today is a day to celebrate your Geodog for all they do.

Meet and greet at the Off-leash Dog park section at Buntzen Lake. There's even picnic shelters inside it in case it rains! The Off-leash area is on the beach and there is a open water area for the poochies to swim - bring them a towel! The gate closes at 7:30 PM, so there's plenty of time to evacuate before we are locked in. Sunset is at 7:56 PM (hooray!), so those who prefer not to drive in the dark still have enough time to get home before sunset. Most other regions in Buntzen Lake are on leash. So yes, BRING YOUR GEOPUP (or borrow one if you want to bring someone else's!).

Come early to beautiful Buntzen Lake and go for a hike (new cache series and vritual there to pick up!) with or without your Geopup. Then come on by to enjoy the pups interactions. My Geopups Ari and Noah will be there to host you. They will bring some nice treats for your Geopups. Letting me know that they are attending will ensure I have enough doggie bags for all! (We'll see if I have enough toys they don't want, to purge again this year...)

There IS transit out to the lake area, but you'll want to put out an SOS for a ride and hopefully everyone will be able to pick up travellers on their way. The 182 bus operates from Port Moody Centre Station to Anmore daily. The closest stop to the lake is stop #53245, Southbound Sunnyside Road at Anmore Grocery Store. It is a 2 km walk to the main parking area and South Beach. Follow signs that direct pedestrians to South Beach. If you need a ride, or have room to drive someone, please say so on your Will Attends!
