Geocache Description:

09 May 2023, 12:00 - 12:30

Park: Largo Jose Saramago

12:00 to 12:30 pm

Hey, Lisbon geocachers and other tourists .... "Boa Tarde!" (Good Afternoon!). Lets meet up for a quick hello and share your most favorite geocaches to get while in the Lisbon area. I know many of you will stop by and get out to explore the town, so I'll try to get photos. It would be AWESOME if most of you post a photo of yourself with your friends or something at the park - or even later, your favorite photo of the day.

Lisbon's slogan is "In Hoc Signo Vinces" - Latin for "By this sign you shall conquer". The city is known for its monuments, landmarks, architecture, and museums. It's home to the oldest bookstore in the world, the Livaria Bertrand, which opened in 1782 (near GC7B6M9). Don't forget to visit the Lisbon Cathedral: Se de Lisboa (GC68H3K) "Cathedral of Saint Mary Major", a Roman Catholic cathedral and the oldest church in the city. It was built in 1147 and has survived many earthquakes. It has been a National Monument since 1910. The park you are standing in is named Largo Jose Saramago. Jose Saramago was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1998 for his parables sustained by imagination, compassion and irony. He was heavily censored by the Portuguese government and went into exile on the Spanish island of Lanzarote, where he lived with his wife until his death in 2010.

Let's gather and be authentically ourselves in a fun photo. As Jose Saramago said:

"In matters of feeling and of the heart, too much is always better than too little."

Saude!
