Some may question the title of my "first" hide. If you're passionate about soccer then this will make sense, if not, you will find out reading further.
I have spent many minutes, hours and days on the side of a soccer field. This journey began when my children started playing at the ages of 4 and 5. I must admit though, it wasn't my first choice of sport but it was what they wanted to do.
They started their soccer journey in New Zealand. The winters were long, cold and wet but it didn't stop them from pursuing what they love. They have travelled extensively in "The Land of the Long White Cloud" and have been fortunate enough to travel to England and Las Vegas.
I'm excited to say they are now leaving their footprint on Australian soil.
Now... they say there is a skill to soccer. At first I thought how hard could it be.. I mean, how hard is it to kick a ball? Over the years I have realised how complex it can be. From watching the kids spend hours learning how to juggle, to do a foot stall, learning to use both feet and to learning the "around the world" trick, which is a juggle then moving your foot 360 degrees around the ball before it hits the ground. It's actually quite amazing to watch.
There have been injuries, tears, frustration, wins and losses but then that's sport. They continue to do what they love and as long as they're doing their best and they're happy, then that's all that counts.
The listed coordinates will take you to the start of my sons Australian journey, John McEwen Reserve, also known as Shepparton Sports Precinct, home to the GV Suns. They are a semi-professional soccer team formed in 2014 and currently compete in the National Premier Leagues Victoria 2. There have been many high profile players come out of this club, Simon Colosimo, Naum Sekulovski, Kristian Sarkies (just to name a few) and most recently Garang Kuol.
I hope to make a series out of this, taking you on a little journey around the fields in the area.
