Geocache Description:

The second stage of the Diamond Creek Trail extension from Wattle Glen to Hurstbridge has now been completed and opened for public use on Monday 21 March 2022.

The Diamond Creek Trail is the most popular shared-use trail in the Shire. It previously connected the townships of Eltham and Diamond Creek, and joined with the Main Yarra Trail at Eltham Lower Park.

Council completed the first stage of the extension to the Diamond Creek Trail in March 2021.

This 2.5km section runs from Luscombe Drive in Diamond Creek to Wilson Road in Wattle Glen. The trail consists of a concrete path for walking, running and cycling, and a separate natural surface trail for horse riding.

The second 3.2km section runs from Wilson Reserve in Wattle Glen to the Hurstbridge High Oval in Graysharps Road, Hurstbridge, near the Hurstbridge Community Hub.

The trail is important as it provides for both recreation and commuter use. The trail connects to Eltham and Diamond Creek railway stations; the extension provides commuters with more options to connect with railway stations in Wattle Glen and Hurstbridge.

It has been estimated that there is the potential for a total of 350,000 users each year, bringing benefits to the local and wider community.
