Geocache Description:

St.Kilian's the earliest place of Catholic worship in Greystones, was built on a site at Kindlestown Lower bequeathed in 1857 by one Thomas Phelan. Phelan was a local landowner from Ballydonagh and was on the Dispensary Committee of the area. The foundation stone was laid on 10th October 1866 and the chapel opened for public worship in August 1867. The architect was most likely the Bray architect and builder Edmund O'Kelly, who also designed the Turkish Baths and the International Hotel in Bray. A photograph of the original building has been preserved and published at the National Library of Ireland. The statue of St. Kilian is by a Bavarian artist, Arnold Fussengang. The chapel was enlarged to its present size and officially became St Kilian's Church in 1886. A booklet commemorating the centenary of this event was issued during celebrations held in November 1986. 23 August 1994.

The Church Micro IE series is open to everyone; if you have a church you would like to place a cache at then please contact THE_Chris through Geocaching.com. This is to keep track of the numbers of the churches and give you the general format for the cache page. In the UK there are thousands in the series so we have some catching up to do! Also, if you currently have a published cache at a church that you would like to include in the series, get in contact and I can add it.

The cache is a small container, please bring your own pen and tweezers to help get it out.
