Not To Be:
The 1994 World Series would have been the championship series of Major League Baseball's (MLB) 1994 season, but it was canceled on September 14 of that year due to a strike by the MLB Players Association that started on August 12. It was only the second time in MLB history that a World Series was not played in a given season (the first being in 1904).
1994 Frame of Reference:
In 1994, the average MLB player annual salary was an estimated $1.2 million. In 2023 dollars, that's about $2.5 million. My dad, age 70 at the time and having retired in 1988, had a real hard time understanding how the players just couldn't make ends meet. The most he ever made in a year working for the railroad was about $19,700. He used some old railroad working words to describe his displeasure with the situation and said he'd never watch baseball again. But he did.
Why publish now?:
