Resistance Is not Futile: The Fight Against Buckthorn and Its Buddies
The invasive common buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica) and it’s invasive relatives (boxelder, bush honeysuckle, Giant hogweed, and Knotweed to name a few) are evil geniuses.
Common buckthorn is the Borg of the plant world. It emits a toxin — emodin — from its seeds, leaves, bark and roots that kills or stunts other flora and as a way to ensure its own survival and exponential spread.
It comes in and out competes everything else. Eventually every square inch of soil it comes into contact with is assimilated.
The posted coordinates will bring you to a parking lot that is part of an eight acre parcel of land which contains 5 acres of mixed hardwood woodlands as designated by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Forestry Plan 02 07 56 2029.

A recent Reddit post I came across from
u/CoolTurtleGamer. “R/Geocaching - How Do You Pronounce It? (CITO).” Reddit, 20 Mar. 2023,
I've wandered back onto Reddit to ask this question that has really been bothering me. Don't answer what you may believe to be the "proper" pronunciation, but answer the way you actually pronounce it.
How do YOU pronounce it? (CITO)
See I T OH
I say SEE-TOE. I’ve always heard it referred to this way so I do as well. I live just a few minutes away from Geocaching Headquarters if that gives me any credit 😆
Cache In Trash Out. I’ve never tried pronouncing the abbreviations.
Almost everyone I meet pronounces it out loud. I try not to so I don't sound silly.
Only because I've never heard anyone say it: SIT-TOE.
I wait for the event host to pronounce it, then I pronounce it differently. The ensuing debate is more fun than collecting trash!
I always pronounce it like SITE-O, but I don't really know where that came from.
In The Netherlands the children have Cito-tests to see what level they will/can start on when they go to middle school. Both are pronounced the same :D
Haha, yep! Pronounced as see-toe.
Sit-toe
SIT-toe, with a light emphasis on SIT. If we're feeling fancy, we'll call it SEE-toe with the same emphasis. Never heard anyone call it SIGH-toe.
the correct way since in my native languages letters are pronounced how theyre supposed to be and its not a guessing game. sort of like see-toe but toe without the e and see is short
Cite oh
I said SIGH when I was a noobie but was shamed to SEE haha
See eye, tee oh. Or just "clean up", since I am not in fact bringing a cache in.
Because my daughter was learning Italian, we started pronouncing it Chee-toe
Sit oh
I say it like Speedo but without the P.
Sito. the Finnish way
Since the C is for Cache, I pronounce it with the hard KA sound.
Keto.
It's not a Sash, why pronounce it with an S sound?
See-tee-oh
