The Martin Luther King Jr. Trail is a paved trail that runs alongside its namesake road south of the downtown Des Moines area. It does not run through nature, but is an important connector for many natural areas, neighborhoods, and businesses located along this stretch of the metro.
In a bit of interesting history, this stop along the trail is located near the old Dico site, where a long time manufacturing facility once stood. This site was found to be in violation of several EPA pollution clean up orders. Now the city is working diligently to clean up and repurpose the land for a professional soccer stadium. As the work progresses, expect that the view from this spot changes greatly!
As part of the fun of finding the cache in this location, please consider including a picture of the area to the south in your log. While not required, it will make for an interesting view of history over time! Also note that the cache is small, with space for the log only, so please bring your own writing utensil. It's also in quite a visible location, so please do your best to look nonchalant! 😀 Parking is available in the nearby LINC at Gray's Station area. Please do not stop along the MLK roadway.
