Geocache Description:

NB: cache is placed close to the dirt path so there is no need to go “bush whacking”. Please respect the trees, plants, and wildlife in this beautiful country park.  There may be nettles or bramble close by - you have been warned.  Path can be muddy in wet weather so wellies advised and there are tree roots grown over some parts of the path

Popular in folklore around the world, relics of ancient mythology and often thought of as being magical, helpful, playful or downright mischievous. Faeries have delighted and entertained children and humankind for centuries.

It is widely known that faeries don’t like to be seen and therefore mostly come out at night to sing and dance in wooded glens before going about their business. Hence the reason this is a “day cache” so that no faeries are disturbed or frightened away - otherwise you may get to their mischievous side (for better or worse 😁)

Looking around you may be lucky to see fairy mist, or even the small red cups of Scarlet Elf Fungi that are used by fae to drink their morning dew or even to bathe their little ones.

Fae tend to make their homes under mounds of Earth covered in green mosses or lichens.

I hope you enjoyed looking for this geocache and it’s little story. Please make sure no damage is done to the woodland area and take home any litter as well as pick up your dogs poop if you have one.

Cache placed with the kind permission of Mr Iain Turbin, Countryside Officer, Apedale Country Park.
