Years ago, in the midst of the crowds around the popular pagodas of Lotus Lake, I spied the stairway leading to this cache. I climbed a series of boardwalks and stairs, anticipating that I would reach a lookout point, perhaps even a small pagoda.
To my surprise I journeyed far from the crowd at Lotus Lake not only in space, but also in time, coming upon a pillbox fortification dating back to the middle twentieth century.
Nearby are related ruins.
Busses and bicycle stations are found close by on Shengli Road.
The trail to access the cache has three beginnings, one at each end of the wall that borders the lakeside roadway, and a third to the southwest.
The nearest restroom facilities are those located 100 meters southeast of the Dragon and Tiger pagodas.
There is no source of water on the trail.
Total elevation gain must be 50 meters.
The cache can hold only a log. Please bring your own pen.
Lotus Lake usually gets crowded, especially on weekends. The recent improvement of the trail to the geocache site has increased the number of visitors. Lots of people walk to, around, and inside the pillbox fortification. This cache replaces one that disappeared. Although not hidden in plain site, this repositioned cache requires searching and a careful approach that anyone nearby can easily observe. Please use stealth, and if necessary come back another time. Watch and listen for muggles approaching. And please rehide the cache as you find it.
