This season each event is part of an alpha series of titles highlighting a term used in Geocaching.

Today’s is brought to you by the letter “Z” for Zip Tie

Zip Tied Geocache ClothepinNow just what term can I use for the last letter of the alphabet “Z”???

I was stumped so I reached out to several Geo FB groups I belong to and this was an aha moment…an I could have had a V-8 moment…now, just why hadn’t I thought of it on my own.

Earlier in this series of events we talked about TOTTs or Tools of the Trade. A zip tie is an all-around handy item to have in any toolbox or Geocaching toolkit. They come in different colors and sizes to meet a multitude of needs. I’ve even seen a school principal who kept them handy to use on belt loops to cinch up a student’s jeans so his bottom wasn’t hanging out…

In Geocaching, I’ve used them in several ways to create or attach a cache container. I’ve also used them to do a quick maintenance job on a cache I’ve found that’s broken its tether. I’m willing to bet most Geocachers have used a zip tie at least once… They don’t rust like wire, but in this south Texas heat they can become brittle and break apart.
