Geocache Description:

A Wikipedia article about the walls and gates of the old city of Fongshan provides background information about the location of this geocache.

When I stood on the road inside the gate, I found a sense of how the old city protected itself. The gate passes through the fortified wall. Inside the gate there are some holes in the top and sides of the gate. I think they must have supported enormous doors. Maybe the holes on the side held bars to hold the doors closed.

I noticed that the steps leading to the top of the wall slope downhill. The slope would have increased the challenge of an attacker trying to climb up to the wall above. Looking at the wall itself I noticed that it was made of stone and cement, not wood. An attacker could not burn it down. The top of the wall is crenellated, meaning it has gaps and holes in it. Defenders could safely hide behind the sections of wall when not firing at an enemy below.

Please be careful when finding the cache because of the unprotected drop-off. There is no railing along the wall. Please pay attention if you bring small children.

Finding the cache requires stealth. This area gets crowded, especially on weekends. The recent renovation of the site has increased the number of visitors. Lots of people walk to, around, and on the wall and gate. Anyone nearby can easily observe anyone on the wall. The geocache is located at a section of the wall that is little visited, but muggles may be present below you and on the wall behind you.  The cache holds only a log. Please bring your own pen.

The nearest public restroom facilities are those located 250 m away, 100 m southeast of the Dragon and Tiger pagodas. There is no source of water at the site. Their are restaurants nearby. Buses (301, R35) run along Shengli Street.
