The South Gate has been restored. The renovation has produced a beautiful building in the midst of a major intersection. The gate does not convey military strength. It has no wall attached, and it has a decorated structure built on top. Small hedges flank the gate on two sides. At the base of the gate are some strips of round black stones--I struggled to see their military function, then concluded that they serve to catch rainwater falling from the roof. The entire structure and its setting appear more like a monument than a fortification.
The gate can be accessed via a pedestrian crosswalk on the northeast side. There is no crosswalk guidelight.
I was surprised by my need to use stealth when searching for the cache. I thought I was alone and suddenly a couple of muggles appeared. This area is not popular or crowded, but is surrounded by traffic. The cache holds only a log. Please bring your own pen.
The nearest public restroom facilities are at the gas station 150 m south. There is no source of water at the site. Their are restaurants nearby. Buses (38B, 38C, 205, 219A, 219B) run nearby.
