Da Carnola (mt. 751 slm) si accede alla Pietra da Sud, costeggiando i campi coltivati su carraie protette da alberi e siepi.
Gli abitanti di Carnola, nei secoli, hanno scolpito un paesaggio tipico del Parmiggiano reggiano, grazie ad un ambiente che garantiva ottime possibilità per l’agricoltura. Campi non troppo in pendenza, composizione ed elevata umidità del suolo hanno favorito lo sviluppo delle foraggere, inframmezzate da boschi di latifoglie e siepi.
Il paese è in una posizione molto felice, su una linea di spartiacque, esposto interamente a sud su un versante soleggiato che guarda la vallata del Rio Dorgola, piccolo affluente del Secchia. Due chilometri più in basso, di fronte al versante settentrionale del monte Rosso, sorge la borgata di Parisola.
L’assetto storico del borgo ha un andamento indifferenziato, le costruzioni si allungano verso le direttrici viarie che conducono ai campi coltivati. Nel 1404 figurava tra le “ville” dipendenti dal castello di Bondolo che vennero riconfermate dagli Estensi alla famiglia dei da Bismantova.
E’ tutt’ora presente, e restaurato nel 2013-14, l’oratorio degli Angeli Custodi, orientato verso ovest con la facciata a capanna e riquadrata da semplici lesene angolari, che ha sostituito probabilmente una chiesa dedicata a San Michele.

From Carnola (mt. 751 asl) you can access the Pietra from the South, skirting the cultivated fields on cart tracks protected by trees and hedges.
The inhabitants of Carnola, over the centuries, have sculpted a typical landscape of Parmiggiano Reggiano, thanks to an environment that guaranteed excellent possibilities for agriculture. Not too sloping fields, the composition and high humidity of the soil have favored the development of forage crops, interspersed with deciduous woods and hedges.
The town is in a very happy position, on a watershed line, facing entirely south on a sunny slope overlooking the valley of the Rio Dorgola, a small tributary of the Secchia. Two kilometers further down, facing the northern slope of Monte Rosso, is the village of Parisola.
The historical structure of the village has an undifferentiated trend, the buildings stretch towards the roads that lead to the cultivated fields. In 1404 it was included among the "villas" dependent on the castle of Bondolo which were reconfirmed by the Este family to the da Bismantova family.
The oratory of the Guardian Angels is still present, and restored in 2013-14, facing west with a gabled façade and framed by simple corner pilasters, which probably replaced a church dedicated to San Michele.
