Geocache Description:

It was September 1954, and all the children were talking in whispers about a 7 foot tall vampire, with metal teeth, terrorising the Gorbals. The rumor was that the vampire had captured and feasted on two boys!

Depsite attempts to reassure the children from parents and police, the children decided something needed to be done about the Gorbals Vampire. After school one day, hundreds of children gathered, armed with blades, crosses, wooden stakes, and their dogs. They marched down to the Southern Necropolis to hunt down the Gorbals Vampire. The children patrolled around the graveyard as the darkness of night crept in and a thick fog rolled over. Someone would spy a shadowy figure through the fog and they would all rush over to it for it only to disappear, until someone spotted another silhoutte.

The children continued to hunt the Gorbals Vampire until the rain began. The children gave up the hunt, but returned the following night, and the one after that, and the one after that. By night 3 the interest had begun to fade, but the fear of the Gorbal Vampire was already woven in to the community. The press soon picked up on the story and the legend of the Gorbals Vampire spread amongst the locals, and reached a wider audience too.

Was the Gorbals Vampire simply created out of mass hysteria, or is there a touch of the truth in the story? I guess we'll never know, but hopefully you'll have more luck finding this cache than the children had finding the Gorbals Vampire!
