Geocache Description:

Hike, bike, or ride your horse for 1.75 miles from the parking area. Well hidden in the floodplain of the Econ River. It will be damp most of the year and it will be wet if there has been recent rain. Poison ivy danger is moderate.

Chapter 1

Rodney Rodent spent a lot of time in the Miami area (bummer). After moving to Orlando with the assistance of Elissa, he found a new home in his very own cache in Lake Cane Park. Unfortunately, the evil overlords (aka Orange County Parks and Recreation) captured Rodney, threw him in the pokey, and confiscated his precious booty. There he remained until a daring rescue was attempted by sympathetic cachers. Once freed, Rodney vowed to complete his mission of returning to Maryland and to vent his wrath upon his captors.

Chapter 2

Rodney and his rescuers searched high and low for a suitable place to re-start his journey. Taking a cue from the Boonie Man, Rodney has settled his cache in the Hal Scott Regional Preserve with the blessing of the SJRWMD staff (special thanks to Jo Anna Baber and Peter Henn). He is eager for someone to grab him up and get him moving northward. To entice assistance, he has loaded his new home with new booty. He dares not list it here for fear of causing a stampede. However, he has a special prize for the first person to find his new home. The more visitors he receives, the greater the revenge on his captors!

Be warned - this site was under water at the time of Rodney's move. Sturdy boots are strongly recommended but waterproof boots will be necessary if it has rained recently. The park entrance is located at N 28° 29.168 W 81° 05.723. There is a loop trail that will take you to the site. The kiosk has a display map but paper copies may be lacking.

Chapter 3

Acting on an insider tip, Boonie Man has released Rodney back into the wild world of cache travel. Be sure to follow Rodney's globe-hopping exploits. In the meantime, get yourself into the woods for a look at what Rodney left behind - not your typical rodent leavings!

Chapter 4

After the terrible conflagration in the spring of 2003, Rodney was determined to relocate to a safer area. He's found a spot that won't burn, but that's because it's so close to the Econ River. It's liable to be wet so make sure you don't wear your good shoes. As an added incentive, Rodney has also hidden a micro cache close to his new home. The coordinates for the micro are contained inside this cache. There are also several items in this cache that survived the fire (mostly) intact!
