Do Porto Santo ao Santo da Serra/ From Porto Santo to Santo da Serra
As gentes do Porto Santo sempre tiveram bastantes dificuldades, devido ao seu isolamento e às condições que nesta ilha existiam. Era como se estivessem entregues à sorte, num sobressalto constante. A chuva era escassa, e havia anos de seca e seca extrema. Em 1778, as adversidades no Porto Santo eram tantas, que o Reino decidiu mobilizar os porto-santenses para terra mais “abundantes e vivas”, neste caso, para o Santo da Serra.
Os apoios do Reino e da Madeira, eram escassos, e assim, os habitantes viam na terra uma fonte de rendimento ao longo de séculos, tendo sido, para além do mar, a única forma de saciar a fome. A desnutrição era uma realidade para as gentes desta terra, que afetou diretamente a mortalidade infantil e a esperança média de vida. A falta de diversidade alimentar era a principal causa de mortalidade infantil. Com o tempo, o povo tornou-se mais resiliente e mais forte nas árduas tarefas diárias. Quando chovia, a alegria estabelecia-se na ilha, pois dava alguma esperança para o futuro.
Em 1778, depois de um longo período de seca, a população não teve alternativas senão receber as ajudas do Reino, com o envio de cereais, bem como outros mantimentos. Porém, é criada no Santo da Serra uma aldeia – a Aldeia Nova. Para além das ajudas enviados pelo Reino, houve uma tentativa de “deslocar” a população do Porto Santo para a Madeira, neste caso, para o Santo da Serra. Chegaram a ser transportadas, aproximadamente, 300 pessoas, para um lugar desconhecido e com condições climatéricas bem destintas daquelas que estavam acostumados. A mudança de uma terra árida e seca, para uma bastante húmida com abundância de precipitação, dificultou imenso o processo de adaptação. Assim, o regresso ao Porto Santo foi inevitável, pois a comunidade que daqui saiu com esperança, rápido se esmorecera com a falta de adaptação num lugar muito “húmido e frio”, pelo que, preferiam passar dificuldades, mas permanecendo na sua amada terra, o Porto Santo. Já é 1883, eram poucos os que permaneceram no Santo da Serra.
As adversidades ficaram na memória social dos porto-santenses que, nos dias de hoje, recordam essas vivências e dificuldades que esta Ilha outrora presenciou. De geração em geração, são alcançados os testemunhos que durante séculos a fio foram vividos, sentidos e sofridos por uma população deixada à sua sorte e ao seu “destino”, quem para ele olha e acredita – PORTO SANTO.

In 1778, after a long period of drought, the population had no choice but to receive aid from the Kingdom, with the shipment of cereals, as well as other supplies. However, a village is created in Santo da Serra – Aldeia Nova. In addition to the help sent by the Kingdom, there was an attempt to “displace” the population from Porto Santo to Madeira, in this case, to Santo da Serra. Approximately 300 people were transported to an unknown place and with weather conditions very different from those they were used to. The change from an arid and dry land to a very humid one with plenty of precipitation made the adaptation process very difficult. Thus, the return to Porto Santo was inevitable, as the community that left here with hope, quickly faded with the lack of adaptation in a very "humid and cold" place, so they preferred to go through difficulties, but remaining in their beloved land, the Porto Santo. It's already 1883, there were few who remained in Santo da Serra.
Adversities remain in the social memory of Porto Santo people who, nowadays, remember these experiences and difficulties that this Island once witnessed. From generation to generation, testimonies are reached that for centuries on end were lived, felt and suffered by a population left to its luck and its “destiny”, who looks at it and believes in it – PORTO SANTO.

Esta cache pretende dar a conhecer esta história, que muito explica a situação vivida no Porto Santo durante séculos. A cache encontra-se num local, onde é possível ver a Ilha da Madeira, quando o tempo assim o permite. A localização é propositada, no sentido, em que pode ver a Madeira, e assim, refletir, como numa ilha perto do Porto Santo, as condições de vida e climatéricas podem ser tão diferentes. É claro que este facto, explica-se através Geografia Física. Contudo, era difícil de entender naquela época, e havia consequentemente, um sentimento de injustiça.
Para encontrar a cache, atente aos pontos adicionais, principalmente o ponto, “vire à esquerda, siga pela beira do abismo”. Quando chegar aqui, atenção, pois irá desviar-se do caminho principal, e criar, o seu próprio caminho, já que não existe um caminho visível até à cache. Contudo, não é difícil, pois o terreno não tem vegetação e o declive é baixo. Tenha especial atenção ao abismo, pois este, é um promontório (cabo), com aproximadamente, 110 metros de altitude. Mantenha sempre uma distância de segurança. Se tiver curiosidade de ver o que há lá em baixo, que já agora, é a praia paralela à praia do Zimbralinho, aproxime-se com muita cautela do abismo.
Chegando à localização final, transponha o arvoredo, e procure pela cache, junto ao tronco de uma árvore, coberta por pedras. Leve consigo material de escrita. A cache, apesar de não ser difícil, é conveniente realizá-la com condições climatéricas favoráveis. Deixe tudo como encontrou ou melhor. Agradeço a visita.

It is clear that this fact is explained through Physical Geography. However, it was difficult to understand at that time, and there was consequently a sense of injustice.
To find the cache, pay attention to the additional points, mainly the point, "turn left, follow the edge of the abyss". When you get here, pay attention, as you will deviate from the main path, and create your own path, since there is no visible path to the cache. However, it is not difficult, as the terrain has no vegetation and the slope is low. Pay special attention to the abyss, as this is a headland (cape), approximately 110 meters high. Always keep a safe distance. If you're curious to see what's down there, which by the way is the beach parallel to Praia do Zimbralinho, approach the abyss very carefully.
Arriving at the final location, cross the grove, and look for the cache, next to a tree trunk, covered by stones. Take writing materials with you.
