As part of the Coronation Weekend we have joined The Big Help Out which is an initiative to encourage people to do something voluntary to help in their local communities in some capacity. As part of this we are having a CITO litter pick in the Blue Lagoon at Bletchley.
Blue Lagoon Bletchley, the former clay pits and surrounding land have been sensitively managed and turned into a Nature Reserve which is particularly rich in wildlife. The main feature of this Nature Reserve is a large, deep, water-filled pit (remaining from the former brickworks) which gets the name ‘Blue Lagoon’ from the water which turns a magnificent shade of blue in the right light. This and the surrounding land were designated a Local Nature Reserve in 1994. Water Eaton brook flows from west to east across the northern sector and various ponds, some with boardwalks, are readily accessible by good solid pathways which link the scrub, woodland and grassland meadow features of the site.
Please be aware of the deep water, take care of yourself & any geopets or geokids with you. We want everyone to come back safely.
Currently the council are redeveloping the main car park. Therefore, suggested parking for today is car park by the cemetery off Selbourne Avenue in Bletchley. The trail into the Blue Lagoon can be muddy after rain so take care.
I will have spare bags if you need one, but I urge you to bring your own gloves and litter pickers if you want to use them. (I will attempt to borrow litter pickers if I can).
All the collected rubbish will be taken to the refuse centre by MANDMADEandMAN. Therefore we can meet back at their car, andMAN will be at the car throughout the event to take any bags of collected litter whenever you return.
This CITO is being carried out with the knowledge and permission of the Project and Development Manager Country Parks at Milton Keynes Council. She has requested that nobody attempts to collect any needles or ‘sharps’ the Council will attend with the correct safety equipment and remove offending articles. She requested that locations of any such finds using What Three Words. If these are given to MANDMADE she’ll pass them on. (Coordinates will be ok too, if you don’t use W3W yourself 👍🏻)
