Brothers Archie, Elton and Lester Kohr worked on the family dairy farm and wanted to expand into the ice cream business. After seeing other ice cream machines they decided to build their own machine that produced a particularly silky creamy texture. They produced homemade ice cream that they delivered along with their milk in horse drawn wagon. Their uncle urged them to setup the machine on the boardwalk at Coney Island. The climate around the beach caused their frozen dessert to melt quickly so they decided to add eggs to stiffen the ice cream which made it taste like custard and thus was born the recipe for frozen custard.
