Scioto Grove Metro Park has a lot to offer including, 5 backpacking sites and about 7 miles of trails, some of which run along the Scioto River. If you follow the REI River Trail down the hill past the Grove building, there is a cute fairy bridge to walk across. The spot for this traditional cache along the trail junctions might be a good place to rest. The forest you can hide in is a common habitat for the wood thrush.
You won’t often see wood thrush around feeders as they prefer to hide in the forest interior. The wood thrush camouflages well in our forest, but their loud ee-oh-lay call can be heard in the summer. Their population is in decline in part due to cowbird nest parasitism. Males will be more active in feeding the young to allow their mate to get started on a second brood.
