Take a walk through the tall pine trees on the Sweetgum Trail at Walnut Woods. John Muir says “Between every two pines is a doorway to a new world”.You’ll feel dwarfed as you walk through the tunnels of the trees. This is a longer walk, but it's an experience walking through the tall stands of sweetgum, pine, and oak trees. You’ll need to bring your own pen for this cache.
The white-breasted nuthatch has a distinct white face, black mohawk, and gray jacket. Similar to woodpeckers, they are excellent tree-climbers and will slip into cavities to nest. They love to pick at seeds and insects on trees. Nuthatches are noisy birds with a nasal voice that sings “wha-wha-wha”.
