Faro di Punta Sardegna
Il Faro di Punta Sardegna (in gallurese Faru di Punta Saldìgna, in sardo Faru de Punta Sardinnia) è un faro attivo situato all'estremità settentrionale del promontorio granitico di Punta Sardegna, di fronte all'Arcipelago di La Maddalena, nel comune di Palau, sulle Bocche di Bonifacio.
Il faro è stato costruito nel 1913 ed è composto da una torre quadrangolare in granito, alta 15 metri, con balcone e lanterna, in cima ad una casa del custode a 2 piani. L'edificio e la torre sono dipinti di bianco, la cupola della lanterna in grigio metallico. Il faro è stato elettrificato nel 1935 e automatizzato quando l'ultimo guardiano se n'è andato nel 1975; negli anni 1946 e 1947, il guardiano è stato una donna, Genoveffa Balzano. Per vent'anni, il faro è rimasto in completo abbandono fino al 1995, quando la struttura è stata affidata, dalla Marina Militare in libera concessione perpetua, alle Università di Trieste e Cagliari come sede del Gruppo di Geomorfologia Costiera e Marina (OCEANS).
Nel 1998, è stata firmata una convenzione tra le due Università e il Comune di Palau, estesa nel 2008 alla Provincia di Olbia-Tempio. Sono iniziati i lavori di ristrutturazione, effettuati dal Comune, e il Centro di ricerca è stato inaugurato il 3 giugno 2005; può ospitare fino a 16 ricercatori.
La luce è posizionata a 38 metri sul livello del mare ed emette un flash bianco in un intervallo di 5 secondi visibile fino ad una distanza di 11 miglia nautiche (20 km). La luce è completamente automatizzata, alimentata da un'unità solare e gestita dal Marina Militare con il codice identificativo numero 1030 E.F.; l'edificio è gestito dal Gruppo di Geomorfologia Costiera e Marina.

Il contenitore è nascosto nella fascia del perimetro subito circostante il faro; nella lista dei waypoint è indicato l'inzio di un breve sentiero che, dopo qualche decina di metri di salita, ti porterà nell'adiacente punto di osservazione sul mare. Sta molto attento nelle giornate ventose, il sentiero e la vedetta sono molto esposti e, a seconda dell'intensità delle correnti, può essere pericoloso.

Punta Sardinia lighthouse
The Punta Sardegna Lighthouse (Faru di Punta Saldìgna in Gallurese, Faru de Punta Sardinnia in Sardinian) is an active lighthouse located at the northern end of the granite promontory of Punta Sardegna, facing the La Maddalena Archipelago, in the municipality of Palau, on the Bocche di Bonifacio.
The lighthouse was built in 1913 and consists of a 15m high quadrangular granite tower with balcony and lantern on top of a 2-storey keeper's house. The building and the tower are painted white, the lantern dome in metallic gray. The lighthouse was electrified in 1935 and automated when the last keeper left in 1975; in the years 1946 and 1947, the guardian was a woman, Genoveffa Balzano. For twenty years, the lighthouse was completely abandoned until 1995, when the structure was entrusted, by the Navy in free perpetual concession, to the University of Trieste and Cagliari as headquarters of the Coastal and Marine Geomorphology Group (OCEANS).
In 1998, an agreement was signed between the two universities and the Municipality of Palau, extended in 2008 to the Province of Olbia-Tempio. The renovation works, carried out by the Municipality, began and the Research Center was inaugurated on 3 June 2005; it can accommodate up to 16 researchers.
The light is positioned 38 meters above sea level and emits a white flash in an interval of 5 seconds visible up to a distance of 11 nautical miles (20 km). The light is fully automated, powered by a solar unit and managed by the Navy with the identification code number 1030 E.F.; the building is managed by the Coastal and Marine Geomorphology Group.
The cache:
The container is hidden in the perimeter band immediately surrounding the lighthouse; the list of waypoints indicates the beginning of a short path which, after a few tens of meters of ascent, will take you to the adjacent observation point over the sea. Be very careful on windy days, the path and the lookout are very exposed and, depending on the strength of the currents, can be dangerous.
