Geocache Description:

Cache is located in or near an interesting geological feature known as Big Bertha. She is the largest of a line of similar geological features.

Follow Tickner Road until you are just about due north of the cache where there is an old logging road heading off to the southwest. The logging road is the easiest way of getting to the cache because the more direct route is very overgrown.

Along the road, you may notice an overgrown blob hanging from a narrow branch of a pine tree. Any idea what this is? We threw sticks at it and verified that it is very heavy (for an object grown into a tree!) but it's obviously not a bird's nest. Also, if you look carefully along Tinckner Road at the entrance to the logging road, you may notice two of the entrances to Tickner Cave. The cave used to extend under the road but was collapsed when the road was built. Now there is a small entrance on each side of the road.

I had a complete list of cache contents but lost it in the move to a different town.

Cache was placed while visiting Lava Beds with my aunt, uncle, and mom. Lava Beds is by far the most interesting and extensive cave area of anywhere I've been where the caves are actually legal to explore on your own without a guide. I highly recommend it, particularly the Cave Loop area.
