Geocache Description:

Eden izmed mnogih bunkerjev znane Rupnikove linije. Pojdite notri in poiščite zaklad.

ENGLISH:

One of the many bunkers of the famous Rupnik Line. Go inside and find the small treasure. But be careful because sometimes (after rain) the floor of the bunker is covered with water. And watch your head, as there are rusty nails hanging from the ceiling. Good luck with your search!

Fortifications of the Rupnik Line

The Rupnik Line is a system of fortifications built by the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (or Kingdom of SHS) in the 1930s as a defensive line on the border with the Kingdom of Italy. The strategically placed bunkers were never used in military or defense purposes.

Special construction teams were assembled to build the fortifications; initially consisting mainly of reserve soldiers, but later, due to the scope of the work, the civilian population was also included. The defense system was built by over 60,000 soldiers and civilians. The construction of fortifications brought the inhabitants a temporary solution to the unemployment and financial problems that affected them due to the border location. During construction, they were employed as construction workers or porters.

Several hundred bunkers were built

With the Rapala Peace Treaty, signed on November 12, 1920, by the Kingdom of SHS and the Kingdom of Italy, the border between the kingdoms was determined. Along the border, in 1938, the construction of a system of fortifications, later named Rupnik Line, began. It was named after the Yugoslav general of Slovene origin, Leon Rupnik, who was in charge of strengthening the defense line.

Several hundred bunkers were built, including three underground defense blocks (Hlavče njive, Hrastov grič and Goli vrh), which were of strategic importance for the defense against possible incursions of Italian soldiers towards Ljubljana. Smaller anti-personnel bunkers for two to seven soldiers were built between these large structures. Barbed wire was installed between the buildings, and anti-tank barriers were also placed in the valleys. At the beginning of World War II, all work on the defense line immediately stopped and many buildings remained unfinished. The defensive line did not experience major battles and did not serve its purpose.
