Here you will find a sign WELCOME TO JUNCTION CITY. The sign faces vehicles as they leave Fort Riley and enter the city limits of Junction City, KS, along Grant Ave. Also, there is a nearby city park called Grant Park or Grant Gate Park, for one of the entrances to Fort Riley is along Grant Ave - thus the name Grant Gate.
About this little park: nice open area to let kids/pets run around in. Also, an information kiosk about the local area and the Kansas River. Boat ramp is also provided for access to the Republican, Smoky Hill, and Kansas River(s). You can walk a little ways and actually see the junction of the Republican River to your right; the Smoky Hill River to your left; which forms the Kansas (Kaw) River to your front. The junction of the rivers is how JUNCTION CITY got its name!! This is also a good place to place a kayak/canoe and go exploring the Kansas River. I and a few other persons did just that and floated on down to the Ogden Boat Ramp - was fun!!!
Park hours: 6:00AM - 11:00PM.
About the cache: typical hide here - nothing fancy. Even though Fort Riley is just on the other side of the Republican River, there is NO reason to enter the installation. Persons wishing to enter the installation and visit the museums and other historical locations are WELCOME, but you MUST enter via the Henry Ave Gate off of I-70 and be issued a visitors pass (unless you have a militray/dependents I.D. card).
Should have no problems with muggles at this spot, just be AWARE of traffic for this spot can get busy as a turn around spot for Grant Ave.
