Geocache Description:

WELCOME TO GRANT PARK AND BOAT RAMP!!. This little city park sits astride the Republican, Smoky Hill, and Kansas (Kaw) Rivers just outside Fort Riley. The park sits at the end of Grant Ave in Junction City and eventually turns into Custer Road/Huebner Road once it enters the military installation. This park has a few names such as Grant Park or Grant Gate Park, for one of the entrances to Fort Riley is along Grant Ave - thus the name Grant Gate and Grant Park..

About this little park: nice open area to let kids/pets run around in. Also, an information kiosk about the local area and the Kansas River. Boat ramp is also provided for access to the Republican, Smoky Hill, and Kansas River(s). You can walk a little ways and actually see the junction of the Republican River to your right; the Smoky Hill River to your left; which forms the Kansas (Kaw) River to your front. The junction of the rivers is how JUNCTION CITY got its name!! This is also a good place to place a kayak/canoe and go exploring the Kansas River. I and a few other persons did just that and floated on down to the Ogden Boat Ramp - was fun!!! Also, this is a popular fishing spot - mainly the Smoky Hill River and Kansas River because that area is a bit deeper -  so do not be surprised to see muggles in the area.

Park hours: 6:00AM - 11:00PM.

A few DO NOTs: DO NOT enter Fort Riley without a proper/current visitors pass or valid military/dependant I.D. Card.

There are 2-vehicular bridges (1 for entering the installation and 1 for exiting the installation) and 1-railroad bridge in immidiate area. DO NOT CROSS any bridges. IF you do cross the vehicular bridge and approach Grant Gate without proper pass/I.D., you WILL be turned around - DO NOT get goofy with the gate guards!! You have been warned!!

Persons wishing to enter the installation and visit the museums and other historical locations are WELCOME, but you MUST enter via the Henry Ave Gate off of I-70 by Marshall Army Airfield and be issued a visitors pass (unless you have a militray/dependents I.D. card).

About the cache: typical hide here - nothing fancy. Even though Fort Riley is just on the other side of the Republican River, there is NO reason to enter the installation. D/T ratings are mainly for warmer weather when all that greenery is in place, so all you "D/T experts" have a nice day. Cache may be easy for some and a little difficult for others. Coordinates WILL place you in an open spot between 3-manmade (or in todays insane world - PERSON MADE) item(s). Where can it be????
